Join music director Laura Jackson and the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra for Classix Three with special guest cellist Zuill Bailey. The concert begins with Daron Aric Hagen’s Heliotrope, a piece with a wonderful melodic sense and a lot of humor to it that takes listeners on a tour through the many different styles of American composers. Next up will be Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 in C major, a vibrant and energetic piece that is very classical in nature while hinting at the rebelliousness and revolution to come from Beethoven. Classix Three closes with Dvorak’s Cello Concerto in B minor. A brilliant showcase for the cello, this work features lots of interplay between the cello and the orchestra. “Zuill is an absolutely dazzling cellist. His technique is flawless and his musicianship is very deep,” remarks Jackson.
