Rev. Henry Grady Barnes

Funeral services for the Rev. Henry Grady Barnes, 75, of Demorest, will be held at 11 a.m. today, March 1, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with the Rev. Chris York, the Rev. Charles Phillips and the Rev. Danny Hart officiating. Burial will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Barnes went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013.

Born Dec. 1, 1937, in White County, he was the son of the late Travis and Della Tomlin Barnes. He also was preceded in death by his grandson, Cody Cheynne Holbrooks; brothers, Harold and Earl Barnes; and sisters, Frances Barnes and Mildred Hammond.

The Rev. Barnes has been a minister of the gospel for 47 years, having pastored several area churches. He was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church.

Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Virginia Maxwell Barnes of Demorest; daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Levi Chandler of Baldwin, and Caroline and Donald Chandler of Mt. Airy; daughter, Robin Irvin of Baldwin; sisters, Mary Hazel Ledford of Cleveland, and Tiney Stowe of Lula; brothers, Bradford Barnes of Dahlonega, and Johnny Barnes of Cornelia; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
