Funeral services for Bascom H. Scroggs, 91, of Cornelia, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 10, at First Baptist Church of Cornelia, with Dr. Eric Spivey and the Rev. David Turner officiating.

Mr. Scroggs died Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Habersham Medical Center.

Born Nov. 30, 1921, in Cornelia, he was the son of the late S.D. and Dell Martin Scroggs. He was the last surviving member of the S.D. Scroggs family.

Mr. Scroggs was a veteran of the United States Army, having served his country during World War II. He retired from Fleming Wholesale Company as a salesman. Mr. Scroggs was a member of First Baptist Church of Cornelia, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School director, Building Fund chairman, Training Union director, Sunday School teacher, and church clerk. He also served on the executive committee of the Habersham Baptist Association and was a trustee of the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home. Mr. Scroggs also went with a group to San Juan, Puerto Rico, to help build a church. Bascom’s greatest desire was to give more time to serving Christ and his church.

Survivors include his loving wife, Mathilda Webster Scroggs of Cornelia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
