Funeral services for Brenda Kay Ballew, 62, of Cornelia, were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with the Rev. Wayne Fowler and the Rev. Tony Goss officiating. Burial followed in Demorest City Cemetery.

Mrs. Ballew died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.

Born Jan. 27, 1950, in Clarkesville, she was a daughter of the late Joe Swain and Mildred Mize Wood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Travis Gene Ballew; and her sister, Linda Smith.

Mrs. Ballew was employed with the Johnson and Johnson Company and a member of Central Heights Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Christy and Hoyt Gosnell of Clarkesville; son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Stacy Henson of Cornelia; son, Scott Shirley of Lincolnton; sisters, Carolyn Barron of Clarkesville, Betty Tench of Demorest, and Leah Smith of Clarkesville; brothers, Kenneth Wood of Cornelia, Phillip Wood and Tommy Wood, both of Clarkesville; grandchildren, Drew Gosnell, Lindsey Gosnell, Tiffany Shirley, and Brandon Shirley; and one great-granddaughter, Jaycee Gosnell.
