Funeral services for Charles Francis Cross, 73, of Baldwin, are scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 11, at Grace Baptist Church, Cornelia, with the Rev. Phillip Yarber and Charles Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery, Baldwin, with full military honors provided by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard.
Mr. Cross died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012.
Born May 28, 1939, in Middlesex County, New Brunswick, N.J., he was the son of the late Harry Charles Cross and Alice Boudreau Cross.
Mr. Cross was a retired Marine captain, serving 22 years for our country. He worked in the poultry industry for six years as a maintenance engineer. After that he became a poultry farmer for 21 years. He loved the farm and he and his wife had many good times during those years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 33 years, Sarah Yarber Cross of Baldwin; son and daughter-in-law, Charles Francis Jr. and Virginia Cross of Port Charlotte, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Jane Marie Cross and Charles Watkins of Swansboro, N.C.; daughter, Joan Margaret Cross Morton of Swansboro, NC.; stepson and daughter-in-law, Wesley and April Meeler of Alto; 12 grandchildren, Lauren Cross, Jacob and Nicole (Nikki) Morton, Trey and Alex Watkins, Brooke, Brady, Brannon, Bailen, Brexley, Betheny and Blayre Meeler.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m., today, Aug. 10, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin.
