Funeral services for Clarence Hubert “C.H.” Bowen, 87, of Demorest, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Beasley officiating. Burial followed in Yonah Memorial Gardens in Demorest with full military honors provided by Grant Reeves VFW Post No. 7720, American Legion Post No. 84, Rabun County DAV Chapter No. 15, and the Georgia National Guard.

Mr. Bowen died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.

Born Dec. 27, 1924, Mr. Bowen was a life-long native of Habersham County and a son of the late Harrison and Clara Beck Bowen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Eller Bowen; son, Roy Bowen; great-grandson, Palmer Nease; brothers, William H. Bowen, Donnie Lee Bowen, Etna Fay Bowen, John Bowen, Lavern “Jim” Bowen; sisters, Mary Whitehead, Mae Bowen and Doris Nebb.

He was a United States Army veteran, having served his country proudly in World War II. His life-long passion was working on his farm and he enjoyed assisting many in the community, often doing work for them with his tractor. Mr. Bowen was a member of Demorest Church of God and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Clarence A. and Carolyn Bowen of Clarkesville; son, Ray Bowen of Mt. Airy; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
