Mr. Bowen died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.
Born Dec. 27, 1924, Mr. Bowen was a life-long native of Habersham County and a son of the late Harrison and Clara Beck Bowen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Eller Bowen; son, Roy Bowen; great-grandson, Palmer Nease; brothers, William H. Bowen, Donnie Lee Bowen, Etna Fay Bowen, John Bowen, Lavern “Jim” Bowen; sisters, Mary Whitehead, Mae Bowen and Doris Nebb.
He was a United States Army veteran, having served his country proudly in World War II. His life-long passion was working on his farm and he enjoyed assisting many in the community, often doing work for them with his tractor. Mr. Bowen was a member of Demorest Church of God and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Clarence A. and Carolyn Bowen of Clarkesville; son, Ray Bowen of Mt. Airy; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
