After raising a grand total of $4,128.65 during the school’s Pennies for Patients fundraiser in support of the Leukemia Society and in honor of Austin Sprayberry, Fairview Elementary School students and faculty members gathered Friday afternoon for a school-wide assembly to witness two very special volunteers undergo a promised “makeover.” Shown is Habersham County Commissioner Sonny James as he tries his hand at shaving the head of Assistant County Manager Jason Tinsley, while commission Chair Lee Mulkey, background, enjoys a good laugh. Tinsley offered to participate and volunteered for the commissioners to do the honors if FES students hit $3,000, a goal they well exceeded. Also stepping up for a “makeover” was Len King, FES art teacher, who agreed to participate if students raised $2,500. FES fifth-grade teacher Connie Quarles and her homeroom class were able to partake in “cutting” class, since they raised $430, more than any other class, in support of the cause.
