Funeral services for David Jarrett “Jake” Church Sr., 77, of Demorest, are scheduled for 11 a.m. today, July 6, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Goss officiating. Burial will follow in Clarkesville City Cemetery with full military honors provided by Grant Reeves VFW Post No. 7720, Habersham County American Legion Post No. 84, and Rabun County DAV Chapter No. 15.

Mr. Church died Tuesday, July 3, 2012.

Born July 17, 1934, in Habersham County, he was a son of the late James Arnold and Martha Sosebee Church. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Hallford Church; brothers, Jim Church and William Church; and sisters, Ruth Charles, Mary Lou Minyard and Edith Dover.

Mr. Church was a self-employed mechanic and was of the Baptist faith. He was also a U.S. Army veteran. In his spare time, Mr. Church enjoyed boating, automobiles, gardening and watching sports.

Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, David J. and Freda Church of Mt. Airy and Ricky J. and Nancy Church of Mt. Airy; daughter and son-in-law, Jean C. and Loyd Smith of Clarkesville; sister, Ione Church of Demorest; caregiver, Christine Church of Demorest; grandchildren, Mandy Church, David Church, Delana Church, Shay Smith and Tina Smith; great-grandchildren, Katelyn Church, Spencer Ansley, Cooper Ansley and Lily Church; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
