Mr. Kuhlers was born and raised in Iowa and was a successful farmer there for more than 35 years. He was the only one from a family of seven children to serve in the U.S. Army in World War II. He served in the South Pacific in the many battles to take back the islands that the Japanese had occupied there. He and his wife retired to Florida for 30 years before moving to Clarkesville in 2008, to be close to their two children.
Survivors are his wife of 66 years, Eloise; and their two children, Connie Thompson and Michael Kuhlers, both of Clarkesville; and two grandchildren.
Because he was a WWII veteran, funeral services will be held at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla., with a full honor guard, chaplain, rifle squad 21 gun salute, a bugler playing taps and the American flag properly folded and presented to the family.
