Funeral services for Eugene Talmadge Pruitt, 80, of Baldwin, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, at Mountain View Baptist Church with the Rev. James Harvey and the Rev. Austin Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by Habersham County American Legion Post No. 84, Grant Reeves VFW Post No. 7720, Rabun County DAV Chapter No. 15, and the Georgia National Guard.

Mr. Pruitt died Monday, July 22, 2013, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born Aug. 12, 1932, in Banks County, he was the son of the late Noah Lee and Flora Smith Pruitt.

He was a United States Army veteran, having proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Pruitt was a retired carpenter with 30 years of service. He was former deputy sheriff with the Banks County Sheriff’s Department and a former policeman with the cities of Clarkesville and Mt. Airy. Mr. Pruitt was a member of Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church and Local Carpenters Union No. 225.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Betty Wilbanks Pruitt of Baldwin; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Stephen Ely of Sandy Springs; sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Peggy Pruitt of Cornelia and Greg and Pam Pruitt of Alto; several nieces and nephews; granddaughters, Brandi Kimbrell, Kristy Hill and Kimberly Pruitt; and great-granddaughters, Madeline Garrison, Tinsley Hill and Riley Kimbrell. Mr. Pruitt was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today, July 26, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin.
