Funeral services for George Dean Telford, 92, of Cornelia, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Cornelia United Methodist Church with Dr. Jay Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Telford died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013.

Born Nov. 25, 1920, in White County, he was a son of the late James Harvey and Neil Kenimer Telford. In addition to his parents, Mr. Telford was also preceded in death by his beloved sons, George Dean Telford, Jr. and Joseph Richard Telford; brothers, Joe and James Telford; sister, Janie O’Kelley.

Mr. Telford was retired as vice president of Community Bank & Trust with many years of service and was also a 50-year member of the Georgia Banking Association. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps World War II veteran and was a member of Cornelia United Methodist Church. He was the oldest living member of the Community Bank & Trust Board of Directors. He also served on the Board of Directors for Community Bank Shares Inc. and Financial Supermarkets. Mr. Telford was also a longtime member of the Cornelia Kiwanis Club, past financial director of Cornelia United Methodist Church, a former Habersham County School Board member, as well as a member of the Lanier Bridge Club. He was also an avid University of Georgia football fan.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Sibyl Blair Telford of Cornelia; daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Hugh Long of Griffin; daughter-in-law, Edith Telford Williams of Cleveland; grandchildren and spouses, Chief Warrant Officer 3 Joe and Crystal Telford of Fort Campbell, Ky., Kelley Telford of Watkinsville, Tony and Anta Long of Jacksonville, Fla., and Christy and Bryan Garner of Griffin; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Matthewson, Tanner Burford, Dean Long, Jessica Long and Austin Garner; brother, Gordon Telford of Toccoa; and sister, Betty Highsmith of Cleveland.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 pm on Friday.
