Funeral services for George W. Sliger, 88, of Demorest, are scheduled for 4 p.m. today, Aug. 29, at Bethel Temple Congregational Holiness Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by Grant Reeves VFW Post No. 7720, Rabun County DAV Chapter No. 15, American Legion Post No. 84 and the Georgia National Guard Funeral Honors.

Mr. Sliger died Monday, Aug. 27, 2012.

Born Dec. 31, 1923, in Boonsville, Ark., he was the son of the late George and Cora Sliger. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Gene Sliger; daughter, Georgia Fay Sliger; brothers, Sam, Pless, Hack and William Sliger.

He was a retired farmer and was a member of Bethel Temple Congregational Holiness Church. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving are his loving wife of 43 years, Emma Sliger of the home; daughter, Beverly Nation of Demorest; sons, Anthony and Barry Nation, both of Demorest; eight grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Bethel Temple C.H. Church from noon until the funeral hour today, Aug. 29.
