Mr. Brown died July 19, 2014.
Jim Brown was a native of Alexandria, Va., and moved to Clarkesville in 2007, during his retirement. Jim served his country as a corporal in the U.S. Marines Corps during the Korean Conflict, where he was awarded the National Defense Service, Korean Service, Good Conduct and United Nations service medals. His career included banking officer, real estate agent and rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He attended George Washington High School in Alexandria, Va., and the American Institute of Banking, where he graduated with honors. His interests and hobbies included Little League umpiring, steam engine trains, stamp and coin collecting, fishing, bluegrass and classical music, photography and avionics. Jim was an active member of Fair-Park Baptist Church in Alexandria, Va., where he served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher. After moving to Georgia, he became a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Clarkesville. He was also an active member of the Marine Corps League at Currahee Post 1301, Toccoa, where he volunteered with Toys for Tots.
Mr. Brown is survived by his beloved wife, Maryln; three children, Marva Griffith, James Brown and Marcye Brown; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his brother, Bill Brown of Colorado.
