Funeral services for John Edward Moore, 83, of Clarkesville, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with the Rev. Grady Walden officiating. Burial followed in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Moore died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at his residence.

Born Jan. 7, 1929, in South Carolina, he was the son of the late F.E. and Hazel Mullinax Moore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Paul Moore.

Mr. Moore was a member of Clarkesville Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School for a number of years and also served as a deacon. He retired from the United States Army Reserve with 30 years of dedicated service to his country.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara Morrison Moore of Clarkesville; sons and daughters-in-law, John Eugene and Patti Moore of Snellville, Jim E. and Pat Moore of Dalton, and Michael and Audrey Moore of Flowery Branch; sister, Martha Brock of Starke, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
