To the editor:
Dear beloved God in heaven, please give us a president that loves this country and everything it stands for. Please give us a president that respects you as the one true God. Please give us a president who will, with your help, restore this nation to its former glory, the way you created her. Please help us to respect what you have given to us and not take anything for granted ever again. Please God weaken the evil and strengthen the good both without and within. In Jesus’ name, Amen. God Bless America!
Saddened by article on domestic violence
To the editor:
I was saddened by the article on the front page of The Northeast Georgian [Oct. 24] highlighting the unfortunate circumstances of Kathy and Dennis Nicholson. I could find nowhere in the article that any family member filed any charges against another. Who of us would want our “dirty laundry” out for public viewing? Kathy Nicholson has been in The Northeast Georgian on many occasions for the positive work she has done with WRAF and Habersham Family Connection. What a shame the newspaper, on this occasion, found it necessary to sensationalize difficulties faced by the Nicholson family! Which of us is worthy to “cast the first stone?” A related concern is the exploitation of citizens through the publication of the weekly arrest record. I am sorry petty arrests are put out for citizens to read as fodder for gossip. How many of our young people have been hurt for life by the publicizing of an underage drinking or petty theft charge? What happened to being “innocent until proven guilty?” Where is our empathy? Please publish positive news in The Northeast Georgian. When rearing children, most parents accentuate the positive and ignore the negative. Can we do that for each other in our community newspaper? If not, I will probably not renew our family’s subscription.
Childhood cancer awareness important
To the editor:
I read with great interest your article about a breast cancer survivor in Friday’s ‘pink’ edition. I hope she continues to live in good health for many years. I fully support breast cancer awareness month as it is an excellent cause. I am all for breast cancer awareness as no one more than me is for ‘saving the ta-tas’ but cancer is also killing our children and some are right here in Habersham County. Were you aware September is ‘Childhood Cancer Awareness’ month and the symbol is a gold ribbon? I don’t recall a mention of it in your paper and certainly would have noticed if the paper had been gold. My daughter Michaela, 2, was diagnosed with a malignant tumor in December of 2011. Thankfully, she is healthy and thriving after four very difficult rounds of chemo. However, the battle continues. Also, we are aware of many children who have been diagnosed with cancer who will not ever be healthy again and some of these children live right here in Habersham County. I could share with you many statistics, but will wait to read these facts, along with stories of the children with cancer in Habersham, in The Northeast Georgian next September. We have to stop this disease from killing our children.
Common sense will get my vote!
To the editor:
As the most important day of our country’s history, I believe it is near. This Nov. 6 we as a nation will be faced with a solemn duty to cast our vote for the team that can best lead us out of the wilderness that currently we’re in. Everybody I run into seems restless and not confident what tomorrow may bring. True leadership and character in a president seems lacking right now and that’s putting it mildly. Obama seems to talk a lot like he’s staring in a mirror and trying to convince himself of what he just said. When you do a job in the real world and don’t do it correctly our boss usually will let us go, just like Clint Eastwood said it! From the healthcare takeover, fast and furious, Middle East turmoil and now four dead Americans in Benghazi because of a “campaigner in chief.” Obama seems to just about blame everybody on earth for his own failings. Mom and dad always told me to try to be your best in all you do – oh yes get rich was a good thing! We as great American people have it as our duty as true believers in our country to hire a new team – Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan – to bring us back to the good old days. Common sense tells it’s a good time to get off that couch for the sake of our future and bring your neighbors with you. We need this good team at this time in our country to lead us back to a place where you and your grandchildren can sleep good again.
