Mary Frances Smith ‘Granny’ Green

Funeral services for Mary Frances Smith “Granny” Green, 89, of Demorest, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, at Bethel Temple Congregational Holiness Church with the Rev. Jonathan Fitzpatrick officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Green died Thursday, June 27, 2013, at her residence following an extended illness.

Born Jan. 14, 1924, in Toccoa, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Arizona Hicks Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Harrison Green Jr.; sister, Eldonia Brock; brothers, Flem, Lee, J.C., Robert, James and Marshall Smith; and daughter-in-law, Janice Coleman Green.

Mrs. Green was a member of Bethel Temple Congregational Holiness Church, Habersham County Senior Citizens Center and the Red Hat Club. She retired from Ethicon.

Mrs. Green was a wonderful cook and liked good food. She enjoyed day trips, great company, a good laugh and hymns, but most of all she loved her family. Her family and friends have yards filled with beautiful flowers she had shared with them over the years.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Winford Hendrix of Clarkesville, Nancy and Michael Lewallen of Cornelia, and Beth and Kenneth Goss of Demorest; sons, David Green and Dennis Green, both of Demorest; sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Janet Green of Cornelia, Dale and Carol Green of Clarkesville, and Randall and Sheila Green of Demorest; 21 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
