Funeral services for Mary Mize Underwood, 80, of Cornelia, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 30, at White Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Lewis Fortner, the Rev. Pete Martin and the Rev. Farrell Presley officiating. Burial followed in VFW Memorial Park.

Mrs. Underwood died Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born April 30, 1931, in White County, she was a daughter of the late Ross Lee and Hallie Dorsey Mize. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Edgar Underwood; infant sister, Winnie Mize; and brothers, Charles and Lee Mize.

Mrs. Underwood was a member of White Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, flowers, sewing, decorating and cooking. She also operated a home daycare that many of her children referred to as “Memaw’s Playhouse.”

Survivors include her daughter, Delynda “Dee” Stavely of Cornelia; sons and daughters-in-law, Stan and Susie Underwood and Milt and Joan Underwood, all of Cornelia, Jeff and Nancy Underwood of Demorest; sister, Shirley Fain of Sautee; brothers, Eugene Mize of Panama City, Fla., Herman Mize of Sautee, Gerald Mize of Cleveland; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
