Mildred ‘Mickey’ Butts

Funeral services for Mildred “Mickey” Butts, 84, of Clarkesville, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 14, at Clemons Chapel United Methodist Church, state Route 52, Lula, with the Rev. Jerry Cameron and the Rev. Phil Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Butts died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born Oct. 5, 1928, in Columbia, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Walter H. Smith and Leona Shumpert Smith Ballington. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Devorah Fain and Gwendolyn Chaize; and stepsister, Diane Thornton.

Mrs. Butts was a stewardess for Delta Airlines before working as a radio and tele-type operator, and later retired from Piedmont Automotive. Mrs. Butts was a member of Clemons Chapel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Gwendolyn Anita Belle of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Gena M. and Marty Funk of Mt. Airy; son, Jeffery Walter Lee Butts of Columbia, S.C.; brother, Robert B. Smith of Rock Hill, S.C.; stepbrothers, Bobby Ballington and Ray Ballington of Columbia, S.C.; grandson, Bradley Ward of Gainesville; and granddaughter, Ashley Bell of Americus.
