Miles Drysdale Beech

Miles Drysdale Beech, dearly beloved husband and best friend of Harriet Bancroft Beech of Clarkesville, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Memorial services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Grace-Calvary Episcopal Church in Clarkesville.

Born in Lima, Peru, he was the son of Joseph and Audrey Beech.

Educated at Ampleforth College in England, McGill University in Canada and the Harvard Business School in Boston, Mr. Beech was a pilot and navigator in the Royal Canadian Air Force in World War II, and held executive positions in subsidiaries of United Technologies Corp./Pratt & Whitney.

Upon retirement, he and Mrs. Beech served with SAMS (the Southern American Missionary Society) and subsequently as co-chairs of the Outreach Committee at Grace-Calvary Episcopal Church in Clarkesville.

He is survived by his wife, Harriet; son and daughter-in-law, William and Rebecca Beech of Los Angeles, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Alan Hoag of Clarkesville; seven grandchildren, Sarah (and Elias) Busuego, Ivy Beech, Joseph Beech, Sam, Stuart and Stephen Hoag, and Sara (and Bill) Gustafson; and two great-grandchildren, Kellie and Kasey Gustafson.
