Funeral services for Ruby J. Free, 83, of Clarkesville, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Tanner, Thomas Hooper and the Rev. Ralph Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Cool Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Free died Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at Habersham Medical Center.

Born Dec. 13, 1928, in Hall County, she was a daughter of the late Lewis Patrick and Gladys Annie Lee Humphries Jones. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, O.B. Chitwood; and second husband, Robert J. Free; daughter, Frances Tench; brothers, George, Leroy, Richard, and Lewis Jones; sisters, Mary Lou Bone and Myrel Arthur.

Mrs. Free was a member of Clarkesville Church of God and was retired from Clarkesville Mill and Fieldale. She enjoyed gardening, canning, quilting, crocheting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Grace and Glenn Chastain of Alto and Bessie and John B. Green of Mt. Airy; son and daughter-in-law, Albert and Frances Chitwood of Clarkesville; sisters, Genia Meeks of Milledgeville, and Patricia Key of Austell; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. today, May 18.
