Mrs. Batson died Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, following an extended illness.
Born May 21, 1927, in Habersham County, she was a daughter of the late C.R. Colston and Zelma Brewer Colston. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Claud F. Batson; son, Johnny C. Batson; sister, Ruth Forrester; and brothers, Harold Colston, Vernon Colston and Russell Colston.
Mrs. Batson devoted her life to her home and her family and loved to garden, fish and travel. She was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church and was known for her generous spirit.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Kerry Ayers of Loganville; daughter, Dolores Wilson of Demorest; sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Kenneth Alexander of Demorest; brothers and sisters-in-law, Weldon and Betty Colston of Cornelia, and Carl and Genevieve Colston of Mt. Airy; grandchildren, Mandy Wilson, Phillip and Jelyn Ayers, Jennifer and Mark Kempey, Jerica Batson and Jonathan Batson; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the ladies who gave loving companionship while caring for Mrs. Rubye: Betty, Shann, Gail, Eunice and Virginia.
