Vernon ‘Zeke’ Masters

Funeral services for Vernon “Zeke” Masters, 85, of Alto, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Rev. Bobby Griffin officiating. Burial followed in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Masters died Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at a local area hospital following a sudden illness.

Born April 5, 1928, in Banks County, he was the son of the late Clyde and Maude Roberts Masters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Avis Watkins and Geraldine King.

Mr. Masters was a retired saw miller.

Survivors include his wife, Vienna Wiley Masters of Alto; daughter and son-in-law, Gwen and James Canup of Alto; sisters, Leona Shore of Cornelia, Willie Seay Dodd of Banks County, Vionna Thomas of Eatonton and Josalou McEntire of Cornelia; one grandson, James Gregory “Greg” Canup and his fiancé Debbie Lynn Blalock; two great-granddaughters, Katrina Ansley and Tiffany Brown; five great-great-grandchildren.
