William L. ‘Wick’ Dillashaw Jr.

Funeral services for William L. “Wick” Dillashaw Jr., 85, of Cornelia, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with Dr. Tom Mewborn and Mr. Dorsey Wilbanks officiating. Entombment followed in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Dillashaw died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013.

Born Jan. 30, 1928, in Habersham County, he was the son of the late William Luther Dillashaw Sr. and the late Florence Nix Dillashaw. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Dillashaw.

Mr. Dillashaw was a retired counselor for the Georgia Department of Education. He was a member of Demorest Baptist Church. He was a man who lived a Christian life in every aspect. He was an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and he also followed the political arena actively. Mr. Dillashaw was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy during World War II and served in Guam.

Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Phoebe Cook Dillashaw of Cornelia; sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and JoAnne Dillashaw and Bob and Elaine Dillashaw, all of Cornelia; grandchildren, Clay and Bonnie Dillashaw, Chris Dillashaw, Taylor and Natalie Houston; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Barbara Hodgkins of Atlanta.
