Funeral services for Henry Hansel Ezzard II of Tiger were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at Beck Funeral Home with the Rev. James Cantrell officiating. Burial followed the services in Tiger Cemetery.

Mr. Ezzard died Oct. 20, 2011.

Born in 1940 in Tiger, he was the son of the late Col. William T. and Ruth Arrendale Ezzard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William T. Ezzard Jr.

Mr. Ezzard attended the University of Georgia, majoring in forestry. He spent most of his career as a forester with Georgia Power Co. as Forestry and Right-of-Way Services manager. An Eagle Scout, he led many youngsters to love the outdoors and to learn to hunt and fish both as a Boy Scout leader and a parent, grandparent and friend. He was a noted gunsmith with an expert knowledge of firearms and gun history. He arranged many fishing and hunting trips for his friends and colleagues and also loved gardening, raising most of the family’s food and sharing with friends and neighbors as well as raising Christmas trees for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Woodall McKay Ezzard of Tiger; his children, Shane Ezzard of Watkinsville, Leslie Ezzard of San Diego, Calif., Marsha McKay, Joey McKay and Ronnie McKay, all of Rabun County; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Dr. John A Ezzard of Tiger; sisters, Joanne E. Barksdale of Newville, Pa., and Lucy E. Bartlett of Tiger.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
