Graveside services for Mervin Ann Jordan Chapman, 79, of Mt. Airy, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Matthew Mote officiating.

Mrs. Chapman died Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at her residence following a sudden illness.

Born June 19, 1932, in Habersham County, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Josiphine Taylor Jordan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hiram Newton “Rozzie” Chapman; son, Clark Newton Chapman; daughter, Wanda Jean Chapman; brother, the Rev. Myron “Bud” Jordan; and sisters, Marie Vandergriff and Melba Jean Harris.

She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and she was a homemaker. Mrs. Chapman loved being with her family. She spent a great deal of time with her great-grandchildren and she had a great love for her pets and animals.

Survivors include her granddaughter and her husband, Tracey and the Rev. Matthew Mote of Mt. Airy; brother, Malcolm Jordan, and sister, Frances Franklin, of Mt. Airy; great-grandchildren, Levi and Ethan Mote; as well as several nieces and nephews.
