Funeral services for Fanneal Simmons Mathis, 83, of Baldwin, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 9, at Harmony Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Vandiver, the Rev. Edward Bolen and the Rev. Darryl Mathis officiating. Mrs. Mathis will lie in state at the church from 1:30 p.m. until the funeral hour. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Mathis died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at The Oaks at Scenic View.

Born March 17, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Cleve and Martha Broome Simmons. She was a native and lifelong resident of Banks County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Mathis, and brothers, Branson Simmons and Grover Simmons.

Survivors include her sister, Mozelle Simmons of Hollingsworth; son and daughter-in-law, Darryl and Lynn Mathis of Athens; four grandchildren, Beth Anne Mathis, Maria Mathis, Mallory Mathis and Melany Mathis; sister-in-law, Novella Simmons; and several nieces and nephews.
