A memorial service for Carl Leslie Sawyer, 93, of Clarkesville, will be held at Hollywood Baptist Church near the end of April.

Mr. Sawyer died Feb. 1, 2012.

He was a body donor to the Emory University School of Medicine, with cremation scheduled at a later date.

He was born Aug. 6, 1918, in Newport, Maine.

Mr. Sawyer retired at age 73 from the Atlanta Police Department. He was a volunteer for Habersham Medical Center for 10 years. He was a graduate of The University of Maine, Class of ‘43. He and his wife were members of Hollywood Baptist Church. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 26 years, Glenna Wade Sawyer of Clarkesville; brother, Raymond Sawyer of Newport, Maine; mother, Myrtle Sawyer, and father, William Sawyer, of Newport, Maine.

He is survived by a brother, Homer Sawyer of Lakeside, Fla.; three daughters, Crystal Mitchell of Atlanta, Deanna Decker of Holbrook, Ariz., and Rita Myers of Clarkesville; four grandchildren, Billy Gorman of Temple, Eric Heckl of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., USMC Col. Karsten Heckl of Jacksonville, N.C., Karin Heckl of Atlanta; and eight great-grandchildren, Haley, 16, Kenzie, 15, Madison, 13, and Megan, 4, Gorman; and Shelby, 21, Regan, 18, Austin, 10, and Adam, 8, Heckl.
