Funeral services for Katherine Rebecca Jones, 96, of Clarkesville and formerly of Birmingham, Ala., were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 14, at Clarkesville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brian Butler officiating. Burial was at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, Ala., on Monday, April 16.

Ms. Jones died Wednesday, April 11, 2012.

Born Feb. 16, 1916, in Rome, she was the daughter of the late Eugene R. and Annie Johnson Jones. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings Mattie O. Jones, L. Elizabeth Jones and Dudley W. Jones, and niece Lynda J. McRae.

Ms. Jones was a member of Clarkesville United Methodist Church where she was involved in the Kite Stribling Circle. She was previously a member of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church in Alabama for more than 50 years. Ms. Jones had a long career as a steel worker for U.S. Steel in Birmingham, Ala. She was the first female to ever earn the position as a supervisor in the tin mill. Ms. Jones was a very loyal and dedicated employee. She took great pride in knowing that her dedication was greatly appreciated in the steel industry’s efforts of supporting a country in times of war and at peace.

Survivors include her nephew, Russell Jones and wife Mary Ruth of Cleveland; great-nephews, Dallas McRae, Robert Jones, Patrick Jones and Stephen Jones; great-nieces, Paige Crowley and husband Jim, Katie Jones, and Isabella Jones; and great-great-nieces, Erin Crowley and Callie Dale.
