Funeral services for Pastor Paul Watson Morris, 68, of Alto, will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 2, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Purcell, the Rev. Lloyd Martin and the Rev. Lloyd Free officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion UMC cemetery with the Rev. Kevin Shockley officiating and full military honors provided by Grant Reeves VFW Post No. 7720, Rabun County DAV Chapter No. 15 and Habersham County American Legion Post No. 84.

All local pastors are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers.

Pastor Morris went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 29, 2012, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born Nov. 8, 1943, in Banks County, he was the son of the late John and Cona Bell Blalock Morris. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Corinthia Jean Morris and Wanda Paciorek.

Pastor Morris was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on Pea Ridge and was retired from Lee Arrendale Correctional Institute, with 20 years of service. Since being called to preach in the early 1970s, he pastored numerous churches in the North Georgia area, including Belton Baptist in Lula, Sugar Hill Baptist, Northside Baptist, Enon Baptist and Pleasant Hill Baptist for 16 years. On May 25, 1991, Pastor Morris received his Master in Theology degree. He was also a member of Lula Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed reading (especially westerns), handy work, painting, crossword puzzles, and above all fellowshipping with others and meeting people.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Louise Armour Morris of Alto, whom he married on Dec. 29, 1967; daughter, Connie Morris of Alto; daughter and son-in-law, Becki Morris Thomas and Gary of Alto; sisters, Judy, Sandra and Donna Morris, all of Spartanburg, S.C.; two grandchildren, Ricci and Kristofer Thomas; numerous nieces, nephews, including Anita, Jeremy, Leigh, Chad, Jennifer and other family members and friends also survive.

Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Mt. Zion UMC Cemetery Fund, 516 Alto Mud Creek Road, Alto, GA 30510; or to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Sick and In-Need Fund, 1294 Pea Ridge Road, Cornelia, GA 30531.
