Funeral services for Joyce H. Payne, 76 of Cornelia, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Stone and the Rev. Gary Heffner officiating. Burial followed in Yonah Memorial Gardens with the Rev. J.R. Elrod officiating.

Mrs. Payne died Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born Oct. 24, 1935, in Habersham County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Lois Yearwood Holbrook. In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Morris “Phil” Payne; sister, Louise Bowen; brothers, the Rev. Donald Holbrook, Horace Holbrook, Harold Holbrook and John Lewis “Jack” Holbrook.

Mrs. Payne was a member of Mud Creek Baptist Church and attended Bethlehem Baptist Church. She was a retired seamstress, having worked with Carwood Manufacturing and International Outerwear. She enjoyed reading her Bible, watching soap operas, flowers, shopping, hummingbirds and was an avid broach collector. Mrs. Payne also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Jeff Williams of Alto and Angela and Ken Gould of Cornelia; sisters, Audrey Hulsey of Mt. Airy and Juanita Partin of Cleveland; two grandchildren, Amber Jackson and husband, Joshua, of Lula, and Adam Bradshaw of Franklin County; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
