Funeral services for George Leonard Stancil Sr., 93, of Demorest, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 10, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with the Rev. Austin Kelley, the Rev. Michael Irvin and the Rev. Steve Merck officiating. Burial will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Stancil died Monday, May 7, 2012, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born April 10, 1919, in White County, he was the son of the late Wesley and Fannie Beech Stansel. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Mae Sisk Stancil. Mr. Stancil was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Mr. Stancil was a United States Army veteran, where he proudly served his country during World War II. He retired from Habersham Mills with 51 years of loyal and dedicated service. Mr. Stancil was also a cattle and chicken farmer, having built his first chicken house in 1951. He was a member of Amy’s Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughter, Joyce Weiner of Demorest; son, George Leonard Stancil Sr. of Demorest; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today, May 9, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Amy’s Creek Baptist Church, c/o Wayne Sullens, 394 Faulkner St., Cleveland, GA 30528.
