Funeral services for Dallas Taylor Coker, 91, of Demorest, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 7, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Donnie Wilkes, the Rev. Keith Allison and the Rev. Anthony Shore officiating. Burial followed in Fairfield Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Coker went home to be with the Lord Friday, May 4, 2012.

Born Feb. 28, 1921, in Stephens County, she was a daughter of the late Johnny Presley and Essie Dodgins Taylor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Coker; sons, Jerry and Freddy Coker; brothers, Lawrence, Alfred, Gordon, William, Grover and Charles Taylor; sisters, Thanie Tilley, Ruth Penley, Grace Walker, Lizzie Kelley, Florence Marsengill and Margie Deaton; and two infant siblings.

Mrs. Coker was retired from Clarkesville Mill with more than 14 years of service. Affectionately known as “Granny Coker,” she often enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, sharing many of her home grown foods from her garden with many folks in the community. She was also the oldest surviving member of Fairfield Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children, Ellen and Roger Wilkes of Demorest, Annette and David Eller III of Clarkesville, Leon and Norma Coker of Enterprise, Ala., Martha Coker of Dahlonega; sisters, Pernell Smith of Demorest, Novia Pilgrim of Gastonia, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
