Mrs. Free died Thursday, May 17, 2012, at her residence following an extended illness.
Born Sept. 1, 1923, in Clarkesville, she was the daughter of the late William Andrew and Nancy Spivey Nicholson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Free; brothers, Turner, Charles, Homer, Willie J., Claude and Clyde Nicholson; sisters, Mary Nicholson, Lucy Jenkins, Susie Kennedy, Hester Sosebee and Hattie Waddell.
Mrs. Free worked at Scovill Fasteners for a period of time and she also worked at Habersham Home. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis Elaine Fountain of Martin; son, Danny N. Free of Clarkesville; brother and sister-in-law, Truett and Elizabeth Nicholson of Demorest; grandchildren, Tiffany Chambers, Kelly Chambers and Holly Bryant (Robert); as well as six great-grandchildren.
