Mrs. Speed died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at her residence.
Born Jan. 14, 1929, in Rabun County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Walter and Lola Tyler Seay. She was preceded in death by two sons, Carroll L. Speed and Raymond C. Speed; brothers, Andrew Seay and Daniel L. Seay; and by a sister, Edith Seay Speed. She also was preceded in death by her former husband, Richard A. Speed.
Mrs. Speed was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She was a retired textile worker and was an avid deer hunter and fisherman.
She is survived by two sons, Arthur Speed and his wife, Jewell, of Clayton, and David Speed of Clarkesville; three daughters, Pat Gravley and her husband, Bill, of Lakemont, Joyce Chastain and her husband, Ernest, of Dillard, and Barbara Clark of Clarkesville; one sister, Ellen Gray of West Chester, Pa.; one granddaughter, Joyclyn Speed reared in the home; 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and a special caregiver, Kay York. Several nephews, nieces and cousins also survive.
