Funeral services for Susan Gibson Hawkins, 76, of Athens, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at Attica Baptist Church with the Rev. Kevin Purcell officiating. Burial followed in Attica Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Hawkins died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012.

Born in Jackson County, she was a daughter of the late James Aubrey and Sallie Belle Dameron Gibson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Hawkins; brothers, Johnny and Jimmy Gibson and sisters, Mary Lee and Jackie Reed.

She retired from Winn Dixie Grocery Stores as a deli manager. She was a member of Attica Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sons, William Aubrey Hawkins of Shady Dale, Charles W. Hawkins and wife Joni of Athens; sisters, Carol Dills of Jefferson, Nell Archer of Jefferson, Jean Morgan of Watkinsville; sister and brother-in-law, Faye and George Marcus of Norcross and brother, A.G. Gibson of Jefferson; and a number of other relatives.
