Funeral services for Gloria Strother Gaines, 74, of Mt. Airy, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 31, at Hillside Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Billy Burrell and the Rev. Brian Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in the VFW Cemetery in Cornelia.

Mrs. Gaines died Aug. 29, 2012.

Born Sept. 24, 1937, in Union, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Lewis T. and Angie Morrow Strother.

Mrs. Gaines retired from Habersham County Board of Education after having served 32 years in education. Mrs. Gaines was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling, sewing and embroidery.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Gaines of Mt. Airy; sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and George Lawrence of Union, S.C.; sisters, Nancy Strother of Miami, Fla., Mary Kate Raker of Charlotte, N.C., and Jean Strother of Charlotte, N.C.; brother-in-law, Phillip and his wife Betty Ann Gaines; and a number of nieces and nephews.
