Interment followed in Mount Bethel Church of God Cemetery with Military Honors by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.

Mr. Heaton died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at the VA Hospital in Atlanta.
A son of the late Ottis and Dollie McClure Heaton, he was born April 30, 1933 in Habersham County where he lived a greater part of his life. He was a U.S. Navy Korean War Veteran, owned and operated Hugh’s Used Cars in Mt. Airy for 34 years, was a 32nd Degree Shriner with the Yarab Temple, was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church, the VFW Post 4346 and the Mt. Airy Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Betty Todd Heaton; son Joe Heaton of Baldwin, son and daughter-in-law, Douglas Hugh and Jacki Heaton of Brunswick; granddaughters, Jena Heaton of Warner Robbins and Jordan Elder of Athens; brother Fred Heaton of Clay, W.Va. and a number of nieces and nephews and cousins.
