Funeral services for Paul Brookshire, 88, of Scottsboro, Ala., were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Scottsboro Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jody Gamble and the Rev. Johnny Fincher officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Brookshire died Jan. 24, 2013, at Highlands Medical Center.

Born Dec. 17, 1924, in Demorest, he grew up near Helen.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Clara Brookshire.

He was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Scottsboro, Ala., and he served as a corporal in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the American Service Medal.

Mr. Brookshire retired from Mead Paper Company at Mahrt Mill in Cottonton, Ala., in 1988 and relocated to Scottsboro for his retirement home. He was a member of the American Legion.

Paul was very active in conservation and in 1995 received the “Senior Conservation Volunteer” for the Alabama Waterfowl Association Inc.

Mr. Brookshire is survived by a daughter, Patricia B. (Jerry) Davis of Aspel, Ala.; son, Michael H. (Wendy) Brookshire of Stevenson, Ala.; grandchildren, Paul Anthony Lawson, Jodi Davis Dunbar, Jan-Claire Smith, Tammy Leigh Knotts, Tammy Marie Graham, Tracy Jo Steele and Tiffany Lynn Hollowell; great-grandchildren, Brooke Davis Wilbourn, Jordan Davis Cater, Colton Reid Smith, Claire-Davis Smith, Shelby Smith, Cason Dunbar, Michael Knotts, Paul Knotts, Clara Grace Hollowell, Zachery Hollowell, Peyton Parnell, Pamela Graham and Preston Griffith.
