Funeral services for Charlene Jones Jenkins, 77, of Mt. Airy, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Antioch Baptist Church, Mt. Airy, with Pastor Brian Stephens officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Jenkins died peacefully on Jan. 24, 2013. 

Born Nov. 3, 1935, in Robbinsville, N.C., she moved to Clarkesville, where she resided for more than 50 years.

Charlene was preceded in death by her husband, Houston L. Jenkins; her mother, Lois Jones; and her father and stepmother, Charlie and Julia Jones.

Charlene was a graduate of Piedmont College, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree, as well as her master’s degree in Business Administration. She was the office manager for Piedmont Automotive for many years. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister and friend.

She leaves behind many people who hold her in their hearts. Her older son, Mark, and his wife, Denise, and three granddaughters, Brooke, Lindsey and Caroline Jenkins of Argyle, Texas; her younger son, Joel, and his wife, Ingrid, and granddaughters Katarina Jenkins and Chloe and husband Nathaniel Giancola, all of Athens; her sister, Martha Holcomb, of Clarkesville; sister and brother-in-law, Rosemary and David Zimmerman of Fayetteville, N.C.; half-brother, Chip Jones of Hendersonville, N.C.; half-sister, Sharon Carlyle and husband Ed of East Flat Rock, N.C.; half-sister, Larrie Jones Hartley of Raleigh, N.C.; seven nephews, Mike, Bron, Greg, Chris, Cam, Andy, Trae; two nieces, Ann and Brianna; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
