A memorial service for Marion Mallette Smith Jr., 61, of Americus, will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Salem United Methodist Church in Americus.

Mr. Smith died Jan. 28, 2013, in the Philippines.

Born June 11, 1951, in Milan, he was the son of the late Marion Mallette Smith Sr. and Quinelle Hargrove Smith. He was second oldest of four siblings.

Mr. Smith served as a signalman for the U.S. Navy from 1972-75. After his discharge from the Navy, he graduated from Georgia Southern University with a degree in education. He worked for the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles for 18 years. He was called to preach for the United Methodist Church in 2005. He was the current pastor of Salem United Methodist Church in Americus.

Mr. Smith is survived by his ex-wife, Gail Smith of Alto; their daughters and sons-in-law, Robert and Myriah White of Cornelia, Richard and Megan Dills of Alto; grandchildren, Cameron Smith and Bryson White of Cornelia, Thomas Dills of Alto; sister, Paulette Reeves of Macon; brother, Neal Smith of Milan; and sister, Shelley Tomberlin of Rhine. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
