Funeral services for Charles William Heaton, 76, of Demorest, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Darvin Slaton and the Rev. Mitch Evans officiating. Burial followed in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Heaton died Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at his residence.

Born March 16, 1937, in Habersham County, he was the son of the late Marion and Alice Bohannon Heaton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Charles Jeffery Heaton.

Mr. Heaton was a loyal employee of Schnadig Corporation and retired after 43 years of service. He was a dedicated member of Demorest Church of God. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed collecting old photos of his hometown of Demorest and surrounding areas.

Mr. Heaton was a devoted and loving husband of 54 years and a wonderful and loving daddy, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a friend to all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Eunice Free Heaton of Demorest; daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Dennis Norton of Mt. Airy; grandsons, Doug Norton and Brandon Norton, both of Mt. Airy; great-grandchildren, Emily, Amber, Raelynn and Allen Norton and Stormy, Jeffery, Isaac, Logan and Zoe Norton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bert and Linda Heaton of Bethlehem and Grady and Martha Heaton of Demorest; and special aunt, Betty Wilson of Clarkesville.
