A memorial service for Sydney Burrell Whelchel, 71, of South Carolina, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, at the Head of Tennessee Baptist Church in Dillard.

Ms. Whelchel died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet, S.C.

Born in Dillard, she was a daughter of the late Darnell Barnett Burrell and Rubye Norton Burrell. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Jewel Darnell Burrell.

Ms. Whelchel retired after a long and successful career as a lighting consultant in the Myrtle Beach, S.C., area to dedicate her time to being a loving and doting grandmother.

Survivors include her three daughters, Wendy Sessions and husband Jeffrey, of Pawleys Island, S.C., Mary Lynn Lee and husband Tony, of Columbia, S.C., and Whitney Mason and husband Tim, of Columbia, S.C.; six grandchildren, Baylee and Nicholas Sessions, Hiatt and Sydney Elizabeth Lee, Lindsay and Jane Malson; a brother, Don Burrell of Winder; and a sister, June Burrell Givan of Clarkesville.
