James ‘Jim’ Coolidge Barr

Funeral services for James “Jim” Coolidge Barr, 88, of Demorest will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 8, at Fairfield Baptist Church with Dr. Keith Allison officiating. Burial will follow the service in Harvest Christian Church Cemetery.

Mr. Barr died May 6, 2013.

Born July 20, 1924, in Troy, Ala., he was the son of the late William C. and Pauline Harrison Barr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Wanza Jean Barr; brother, Ralph Barr; and sisters, Myrtle Simon, Mildred Helms and Minnie Cunningham. Jim was the last member of his immediate family.

Mr. Barr was a United States Army veteran, having served during World War II under Gen. George S. Patton in the Battle of the Bulge. Jim was a self-employed landscape contractor and he was a deacon for 40 years at his home church back in Texas. He was currently a member of Fairfield Baptist Church.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Melba Louise Black Barr of Demorest; son and daughter-in-law, James Rick and Itzaga Barr of Plano, Texas; son, Jerry Don Barr of San Angelo, Texas; and grandson, James Anthony Barr of Plano, Texas.
