Memorial services for Jessie Mae York Wood, 72, of the Batesville Community were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 6, at Providence Baptist Church with her brother, the Rev. Clifford York, officiating.

Mrs. Wood died May 27, 2013, following an extended illness.

Born Feb. 26, 1941, in Rabun County, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Julius and Margie Carnes York. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ray Wood, and daughter, Tracy Wood.

She was a retired textile worker from Fruit of the Loom. After retirement, Mrs. Wood went back to college to further her education. She received a degree in Horticulture from North Georgia Technical College. Mrs. Wood was a member of Providence Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Deanna Wood, son, Jason Lee Wood, and daughter, Missy Wood, all of Batesville; son, Charles Anthony Wood of Alto; brothers, the Rev. Clifford York of Baltimore, Md., and Furman York of Tennessee; as well as eight grandchildren.
