Funeral services for Hershel James Cantrell Sr., 92, of Cornelia, are scheduled for 2 p.m. today, Aug. 9, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Grizzle and the Rev. Raymond Payne officiating. Burial will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Cantrell died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at his residence.

Born Aug. 31, 1920, in Sautee, he was a son of the late Sam and Drucilla Chastain Cantrell. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Reba Hilton Cantrell; great-grandson, Daniel Tatum; five brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Cantrell was the former owner and operator of Cantrell Service Station as well as a former deputy sheriff and police officer. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his son, Hershel James Cantrell Jr. of Cornelia; son and daughter-in-law, Andrew Buddy and Janice Cantrell of Alto; daughters, Reba Sue Arrendale and Priscilla Lee Martin, both of Cornelia; sister-in-law, Nellie Cantrell of Mt. Airy; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon-2 p.m. today, Aug. 9.
