James Elijah ‘Jim’ Ridley

Memorial services for James Elijah “Jim” Ridley, 72, of Cornelia, were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at Level Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian James, the Rev. Doug Ridley and the Rev. Wyatt Mullinax officiating. Military honors will be provided by the National Guard, Habersham County American Legion Post No. 84, Rabun County DAV Chapter No. 15 and Grant Reeves VFW Post No. 7720.

Mr. Ridley entered into the presence of his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013.

Born Nov. 16, 1940, in Cheswold, Del., he was the son of the late Joel and Hazel Hannum Ridley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joel W. Ridley II; infant sister, Ruth Ridley; and grandson, Ryan Blanchard.

Mr. Ridley was a United States Army veteran. He was a research analyst and retired from SMC (Southern Motor Carriers) with 35 years of service. Mr. Ridley went on several short-term mission trips to Nicaragua, Puerto Rico and Uganda. He worked with Child Evangelism Fellowship, Good News Clubs and Summer 5-day clubs. Mr. Ridley was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church where he was active in the church choir and teaching Sunday school.

We are very thankful to all who cared for Jim through Amedisys Hospice (Toccoa), a very special group of people.

Survivors include his wife, Barbi Ridley of Cornelia; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Ronnie Hudson of Powder Springs; daughter, Faith Ferguson of Gainesville; sons and daughters-in-law of Randy and Cheryl Ridley of Dahlonega, Andrew and Rachel Ridley of Gainesville, and Danny and Kirsten Ridley of Clarkesville; sisters, Sue Urian of Delaware and Martha Collins of Delaware; brothers, Earl Ridley of Delaware, Fred Ridley of Maryland and the Rev. Doug Ridley of Maryland; 16 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
