Funeral services for Roy Leon Pilgrim, 74, of Cornelia, were held at 3 p.m., Nov. 30, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with the Rev. Gary Hefner and the Rev. Donald Grizzle officiating. Burial followed in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Pilgrim died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013.

Born March 26, 1939, in Cleveland, he was the son of Alma Wade Pilgrim and the late John Pilgrim. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ed Pilgrim, and sister, Melba Smith.

Mr. Pilgrim was of the Christian Faith. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Pilgrim began his employment career serving in management with Scovill Manufacturing Company, Wayne Poultry, CWT Farms and ISA Farms, all in a management level; after his poultry service career, he – along with his wife, Dorene – owned and operated The Gillsville Café.

In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife Dorene F. Pilgrim of Cornelia; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Andy Jackson of Cornelia; stepson and wife, Eric D. and Stephanie Hicks of Cornelia; sisters, Queenola Daniel of Cornelia, Charlene Ivester of Clarkesville, and Elizabeth Allen of Gainesville; brothers, Terry Pilgrim, Tony Pilgrim and Jerry Pilgrim, all of Cleveland; grandchildren, Dylan Jackson and Sarah Jackson; stepgrandchildren, Nicholas Hicks and Nathan Hicks.
