Funeral services for J.D. Durham, 77, of Mt. Airy, are scheduled for 11 a.m. today, Jan. 3, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with the Rev. Michael Justus, Kent Durham, the Rev. Tim Hilton and Pastor James Lyons officiating. Burial will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens, with full military honors provided by the United States Navy Color Guard, Grant Reeves VFW Post No. 7720, Habersham County American Legion Post No. 84, and Rabun County DAV Chapter No. 15.

Mr. Durham died Monday, Dec. 30, 2013.

He was born July 31, 1936, in Homer.

He was a member of Camp Creek Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Durham was a retired teacher, coach and principal in the Habersham County School System.

Survivors include his wife, Lorie Durham of Mt. Airy; daughter and son-in-law, Rebekah and Steven Russo of Clarkesville; sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Candice Hilton of Bethlehem, Ben and Melissa Hilton of Dacula, Dusty and Amanda Durham of Lula; sons, Andy Durham of Alto, Ben Shields of Alto; sisters, Evelyn Mitchell of Anderson, S.C., Celeste Wilson of Thomasville, Willene Osborne of Homer, Joyce Barrett of Snellville; brothers, Dwight Durham of Carrollton, Maxwell Durham of Cornelia; 14 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
