Funeral services for James Alfred Savage, 71, of Alto, were held at 4 p.m., Monday, April 14, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with Dr. Kenneth Franklin, the Rev. Sanford Kimbrell and the Rev. Scott Ledbetter officiating. Burial followed in Yonah Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Georgia National Guard and law enforcement officers.

Mr. Savage died Saturday, April 12, 2014.

Born Oct. 9, 1942, in Banks County, he was the son of the late Randolph and Bessie Mae Simmons Savage. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Julie Crowe and Jeanette Savage.

Mr. Savage was a member of Leatherwood Baptist Church. He served in the United States Navy. Mr. Savage was a retired sergeant with the Banks County Sheriff’s Department with 18 years of service. He was employed with the Baldwin Police Department and retired in 2011. Mr. Savage was also formerly employed part-time with the Cornelia Police Department.

Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Allie Wade Savage of Alto; daughter, Toni Sheridan of Alto; sister, Nancy Jereline Savage of Cleveland; and granddaughter, Megan Sheridan of Alto.
