Funeral services for Ruth Josephine Matheson Cook, 94, of Alto, were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 22, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Jan Devereaux and the Rev. Dennis Wilkes officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Cook died Thursday, June 19, 2014, at her residence.

Born Nov. 26, 1919, in Habersham County, she was a daughter of the late Frank Matheson and Vera Shirley Matheson. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Silas Newton Cook; two sisters; and one great-great grandchild.

Mrs. Cook was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and was retired from Carwood Manufacturing.

Survivors include her daughters, Melba Dodd (James) of Alto, Francine Ritch of Alto, Shirley Smith (Edwin) of Mt. Airy, Melissa Downer (Richard) of Cornelia; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
